Digital
20″x16″

Final piece of 2024. For this piece I only used CMYK and RGB, plus a ton of layering techniques. I want to make my digital work a new material approach to my subject matter, as opposed to using digital art to replicate my traditional material approaches. I’ve also been comparing my digital work to the work of others, and it’s been causing awkward, stilted compositions I think. Not to say that this composition feels flawless to me, I went through a few iterations of the arrangement, but I decided on relying on the way that details can be extremely clear in digital art, so I let go of my fear that certain details will be lost if I were to make my original drawing smaller.

I actually started off with a pencil drawing, took a photo of that, edited in procreate, expanded upon the subject matter by sourcing other images and reflecting on my white coat syndrome, then landed on this. I think the method of limited color pallet is working for me, I always get overwhelmed by how many color options I have in digital work. I think digital art is so accessible in so many ways that the lack of limitations makes it harder than traditional art. When you can do just about anything, it’s hard to be focused, it’s sometimes hard to even be creative.
